A mother's love - enough to give her kid the stink eye, but even more so, to be there for him. Unconditional love is probably what has encouraged us the most, along with enough care to give appropriate protection. It may be just the thing that allows her son to follow in his dad's footsteps without stepping into the trap that cost him his life.

She's providing something she didn't get when she was coming along, as some Sage on here already pointed out...

When we think of the characteristics of a great mom they align with the same characteristics of Jesus Christ. Boundless love, humility, wisdom, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-sacrificing. I think it’s what made Him elevate their status at a time when they were considered nothing more than property, He related to women. More than that, Jesus saw an intrinsic value in women equal to that of men even if given different roles by the Father.

It’s ironic how some folks can break generational toxic patterns. Others never find the strength. This young musician is certainly blessed. As are we just from ‘knowing’ his momma and others like her.

Never judge a book by its cover....Unconditional love is given to us by our Lord and Savior, how can we not do the same?

As I read this story I kept thinking you were going to reveal something bad about the mother, but she just kept getting better. As a mother I certainly understand the love and devotion she shows her son. Many of us have parented in the way we wish we had been parented. May this young man fully understand and appreciate the sacrifices his mother is making for him. They are blessed to have each other.

Way to capture a moment! This played out in my mind like a movie. Is there a new book in the works?

Good morning Sean and happy Sonday to all yall. Well that was a nice story. It was kind of like when you order a chicken sandwich and it comes out and its not very big, its warm but not hot and the seasoning is bland. Its just not filling. So now ill hafta read something else to fill me up. Maybe the back of the cereal box.

Right now I'm going fix another cup of joe, go to the barn and sing some 4 part harmony, southern gospel to the equines who are waiting for me. Yall have a wondermous day !

This is another Pone Classic- it hits on many of his favorite themes then brings it all home with his comments on the service. Purty sweet story. Got my calculator out doing the math on meeting prospective "daddy" at church concert" hitting it off, then having her son at age 16. She sounds like she's making up for lost time however. Have you noticed about how many of this type mother Pone writes about? Experience is a hard teacher. By the way Pone, excellent job on the Ole hollerbody!

Growing up in the 60's and 70's everyone wanted to play the guitar, but you found out some could and some just wished they could. My brother and I were given lessons and we each had a rented guitar but when my brother got bored and didn't want to take them anymore so that was the end of it.

Just like Leonard on the Big Bang Theory, without the high IQ, I was small and bullied so my parents thought joining the school band and playing the clarinet would make me feel better instead of learning the guitar and having girls screaming at me. I was a preteen what did you expect for a country boy from Arkansas and no I didn't learn how to play the clarinet.

Moms are always there for their kids, even when they are disappointed in your actions. They will stand you up and dust you off with a kiss and a smile but as you are walking away there will be, as the author said, the "stink eye" to give you warning to try and not to repeat the same mistake.
