And that is the epitome of Southern Hospitality!

Jamie might have gotten some extra sleep back at the hotel (and ordered room service for breakfast), but your encounter with GInerva included iced tea and a new friend. Thank you for sharing your travel experiences, Sean - especially the people you’ve met.

I love, love, love the way you interact with people! I can picture your slow smile and your bright eyes as you share your morning with this perfect (in so many ways) stranger. I love even more the way you share this interaction with us (your friends and readers). Traveling with you and seeing the world through your eyes is an unexpected and much appreciated joy! Please take us along always ...

And we get back what we give. When you were sweet to Ginerva she rewarded you. Lots of people haven't learned that even at home, much less when abroad. Ciao!

I wish there were more Ginervas and Seans in the world. I guess that is too much to hope for, but thank God for the ones we do have.

Sean, I do believe you might just be the most approachable person on planet earth. Are you part puppy? What we do know, is that you are gifted in more ways than writing. Enjoy your stay abroad, nothing has changed here. All good my friend. Soak it in.

Iced tea in Italy?!? Who woulda thought! You seem to bring out the best in folks. Thanks for another heartwarming column. We aren’t so different, after all. ❤️

You know, Sean, there is something about you that brings out the best in other people. It’s probably because you look for the good in people and they sense that, and therefore people feel comfortable being their true selves. That’s a quality that doesn’t always come naturally to people, but can be developed. You’ve developed that virtue and works in your favor and affirms those you come in contact with. You are a good man Charlie Brown.

Sometimes, even here in the states, we get lost. Tea is different, eggs are different, heck even bread is different, but we figure out how to make it work. I have been to some places that doesn't know what grits are or even hash browns, but we make do with what they have. Years and years ago I started eating chittlins or chitterlings for the uninformed but again they were lost till I ran across a food truck that comes around about once a month and she will bring them. Like Ginerva, there are people that will do their best to make your like better if not tastier and bring back good memories.

We used to say they are "stump throwd" or "hand slung" boil the crap out of them and you can eat them or fry them either way you use hot sauce.

Mom used to host chittlin suppers. There was no place to hide from the smell. The good ole days.

Linda, I envy you. My dad had one of the toughest and most dangerous jobs in the world as a merchant seaman but he was a world traveler for having that job. He visited the ports of Portugal, Spain, Russia, and Singapore, just to name a few. He bought a world map for me and my brother so that we could track his ports of entry.

Finally, some positives about Americans in Italy! I was beginning to think they’re all nimrods! And it took a well-traveled Italian 💚🤍❤️ waitress, who loves America, to speak about our food, iced tea, TV shows, and even the Opry. Not only does she “toot our horn”, she WEARS it on her elbow!!

Thanks, Sean, for redeeming us, especially those Americans who live in the Southeastern United States ❤️🤍💙
