Oscar Pibble stole my water,

bottle crackles 'tween his pearly whites.

I guess he really thought he oughter

take it, it was his by rights,

but he took this one more step

and that step seemed very clear.

Thinking he'd increase his pep,

he done went and stole my beer.

He grabbed the can and chugged it down,

and his eyes got kinda glassy.

He wandered like a clumsy clown,

and then, oh, boy, did he get gassy,

and thus a Pit Bull learned the sense

of a life of temperance.

Happy Anniversary!

You’re a poet.

I’m glad you know it.

‘Cause if you didn’t -

These things you write

Would stay in your head

And never see the light

Of day!

PS - I am not a poet!

Awesome poem, Andrew. And yes, I imagine Oscar Pibble was a bit doozy after chugging down a beer. Perhaps the next time, he was a bit more choosy? Or he just wanted it because it was wet and he was thirsty? I wish I could be a poet, because I love to rhyme things. :-)

You're a lucky man. My "water" died this April. Happy Anniversary. I hope you and your water get at least as long as we did--56 years. 🙏

Your “water” lives in your heart and is with you always. God bless!

Here’s another water factoid that might interest you: all the water that exists on planet Earth at this moment is the very same water that existed at Creation. It’s the same water that floated Noah’s ark and filled the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized. Because Earth is a closed system, evaporating and condensing the same water molecules that have been filtering through that system since the very beginning. Happy anniversary, you two! We will see you in Paola next month.

I just read a bit of trivia about somebody sealing a plant in a closed container many years ago, and it has survived with no additional water, nourishment etc. since then.

Terrariums used to be all the rage because they self-water. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one, though!

Wonderful factoid!

Its probably 1959. I am four years old. My momma had three little boys by then, We lived in a new house in Lakeland Fla. The milk man left glass bottles of milk at the door. I know because I dropped one. But this is about a frozen treat my mom made us. She took that dixie cup(you mentioned) and put fruit cocktail in it with a popsicle stick in the middle and put it in the freezer. In the summer it was amazing. I can still taste it always looking for that cherry. THanks momma. Much love to you and your water lady.

Hallelujah, Mr Sean. I’m with you.

It goes against my grain to pay for water.

Although I’m happy with bottled water when it’s freely provided.

Guess I’m just an obstinate old cuss venturing through his 86th year who well remembers drinking from a “hose pipe” (don’t hear that term much anymore).

When asked by the grandkids or even the great grandkids, did I really drink out of a hose? The way they ask it is almost as if I am spitting on the bible. To really get them going, I told them that my brother and I would be walking along the river and wanting a drink of water we would find an area that had an old house site. There would be a pipe out of the ground and if you are lucky a "pitcher pump" was still attached. We would find something that would hold water from the river. We would start pouring the water while pumping the pump. If we were lucky the pump would prime and water would start to flow. Pump till it was clear and cool, then it was ready to drink. My wife just shakes her head, like my mom used to when my brother and I would tell her.

I just read an article in a gardening publication advising readers not to fill their birdbaths from a hose because of the chemicals in the composition of the hose. The writer would probably have had a stroke if he thought actual people were drinking out of a hose!

Currently I am post op cataract surgery. One of the many after care instructions was drink plenty of water. No wonder, your peepers are 98% water!

This reminds me of “What are little girls made of”. The lid wasn’t on tight when the good Lord was sprinkling in the spice on some of us 😁
