It seems strange that a lot of women want their husbands educated. Jamie got you back to college and so did mine. Mine told me she knew I was going to be good for her when I got a job within a week of moving to Georgia. When I asked was it love or having a job that made you decide to keep me. She just smiled and offered me a homemade biscuit.
Fun to remember our first dates….our parents’ curiosity about it….and sometimes a marriage after courtship. And good if our parents accept our chosen mate! My seal the deal moment, from my parents, was a soft conversation I heard from my bedroom.
I had left several of my birthday gifts on the dining room table. I could tell they were looking at my boyfriend’s gift, which he had chosen for me. My dad tenderly whispered to my mom, “He must really love her.” My smile was probably the biggest ever on my face! I knew, then, they liked him….five years later the thoughtful birthday giver became my husband. ♥️
Thanks Sean. I need a good laugh. Been in that story too, with the same results. As I sit here tonight typing I am looking at the woman I married 46 1/2 years ago. Yep I still smile. 😆
BTW our chesterfield is pushed up against the wall, no hiding allowed🤫
49 years ago on a blind date I asked my Carol to an evening dinner at the Barn Dinner Theater near Winchester. The blind date was on Saturday 6-22-75. She says that she liked my voice on the phone the night I called, I liked her looks from the time she answered her door. I gave my best friend a thumbs up as we walked to the car door. His wife Sharon Sue worked with Carol at the GTE office in Morehead. We married on December 19, 1975. Smart move Sean not picking a place to eat…
"I knew that one day this woman would be my everything..."
I remember that moment with dear Jeannette. Most times, I am profoundly thankful for our 42 years of married life together. Still, there are times (like when I hear of someone else's moment) when I desparately wish I could have that moment and her back.
I love this first date story. Made me think back 41 years to my first date with the sweet woman who became my sweet bride. We were older than Jamie and Sean so no parents were checking up on us, but I knew she’d be my Everything all the same. Different conversation, but same result. My life was forever changed.
Hahaha, Sean. My husband and I didn't meet each others' parents until they came to town for the wedding. We were both 25, had met in September, engaged in February and married in July. My folks came in first and approved of him; his parents showed up the day before the wedding, and I presume they approved of me. We've been married now for more than 56 years, so I guess we knew what we wanted and were getting into. We lived far away from both of our parents. We were living in Wyoming; my parents were in Texas, and his in New York. We did meet the chosen spouses of our daughters before they married.
Your life would make a wonderful movie. When Miss Devons is cast I envision her wearing those super thick support hose as to prevent anyone ogling her actual skin. And sensible shoes: a heel higher than an inch is for trollops 😂. Her hair is styled in a severe bun, no makeup or jewelry just a cloud of perfume.
My future husband had a beautiful GTX that loved and that he had washed and shined to the nth degree for our first date. We lived (and still live) in the then DEEP country where asphalt and cement was rarely seen. ("TOWN" is rapidly encroaching.) We'd had a few days of rain but it was dry for our first date. He came to pick me up and when he came to our very long driveway and saw it was a long muddy mess, he drove on by thinking surely this wasn't it.........surely he wasn't going to have to take his gleaming GTX down that driveway. He drove the length of our short county road and when he didn't see another driveway, tried again, thinking surely he'd missed it. But, alas, no..............IF he wanted this date, he was going to have to go down that muddy driveway. With possibly tears in his eyes, he drove down that drive, picked me up for our first date........of course he had to make more trips down that muddy drive to deliver me home. 48 years later, we still live on the land that made up our family farm............right beside that long driveway which is still unpaved. I guess true love trumps a gleaming GTX!! Thanks for the wonderful "first date" story, Sean.

My wife and I are both HS dropouts. I have 2 kids that never went to public school. The military recruiters look for homeschooled kids.
Oh, my
Just like all your best stories. Tears followed by a great laugh. I just love you and Jamie, and I love the way you do unabashedly celebrate her.
“Benny” is awful close to “ Becca” 🤗
I knew a gal that was a terrific car mechanic.
Hey, I saw her in My Cousin Vinnie.

I have to asked --- what was the name of the movie?
Best reply I bet Sean receives!
I'd love to know the answer!
Probably 9 1/2 Weeks. Lol
Whoa! So that's why I got no response!
...or maybe that was just a made-up part of the story, Joan, that the movie they cked out was x-rated.
Our Seaner can spin a tale, for sure. 😊
Nope, 9 1\2 weeks is firmly fixed in my mind
Lol😂😂

Using words only us southerners would understand-
“Bless your hearts”🤗

I would add an ungodly shade of red lipstick to that, Dolores. Lol
What an absolutely wonderful story ❤️ so appreciate you taking time to share🤗🤗🤗

Despite all the early crap, you've sure gotten a lot of HUGE blessings along the way, buddy boy.
Hilarious! You stirred memories..... a lady of a certain age with too much perfume...and knowing Jesus was coming that very week!
