It has also been a joy for us to read and see your interactions with Becca. Becca is a delight to read about so I am sure she is even more fun in person. I hope ya'll had a great time.
What a sweet tribute to sweet Becca! I'd like to know her version of that initial meeting in person. She will no doubt have her special remembrance of hugging you the first time, then dining, talking, laughing. Here's to MANY more friendversaries, Sean and Becca!
Not all of us are blessed with children of our own, but God, in His infinite wisdom, will sometimes choose to place very special children in our lives because they need us, and we need them, even if we don't realize it at first.
My late DH & I weren't able to have children, for reasons known only to God, but for the better part of 5 years he placed two little girls into our care. They were "ours" every weekend from Fri evening until Sunday evening, every extended school break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and multiple-week extended stays in the summer. That was 25 years ago, and I still cherish the memories. When DH passed away, those girls were young ladies, but they asked me to include "Dad" on the grave marker.
God saw the "dad" in you, so he sent Becca to bring that part of you out. Isn't He amazing?
Dear EMW-W-O-W!!! What a beautiful story and what an amazing tribute to your beloved DH by your two 'daughters'. This just proves once again -like they say many times-family is NOT just the ones who we share our bloodline with..........but rather those people whom we share our 'heartline' with!! Thank you for being able to open yourselves up to unending Love. Blessings and answered prayers be yours now and always.
Are we having fun yet? That’s a YES! From the first thing you noticed about Becca…her laugh, and the first thing you did…hugging, you are on your way to making more wonderful memories together!
From “Oh, The Places you Will Go!” by Dr. Seuss, the final book of his writing career in children’s literature -
“Kid(s), you’ll move mountains! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So get on your way!
You have brains in your head(s). You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the one who’ll decide where to go. (Can Sean and Becca agree?)
And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)”
What a wonderful friendship you and Jamie share with Becca, Sean. All three of you are fortunate to have found each other. I know her foster parents are so pleased at your relationship. Foster parenting, when done right in a truly loving way, is such a blessing to so many children like Becca who have very little hope for a bright future. I am closely related to both foster parents and adoptive parents, and what a blessing they are. Keep loving each other, Sean, Jamie, and Becca.
Dear Phillip-Thank you for reminding all of us what the TRUE meaning of a 'Family' is. They say that blood is thicker than water....but I can give you name after name of families I know and have met who opened their 'Servant's Hearts' and minds to bring a stranger into their family with all the blessings that come from doing just that.
No, Doc, you are NOT at all sorry. And, after a merciful, but all too brief hiatus, are back at it again, exploiting Sean's upbeat and poignant columns, to air your disdain for religion and to make hurtful retorts to those of his followers (and they constitute the vast majority) for whom religious faith is important. You jes' can't hep yo sef, Doc! You got too big a bitter, angry burr under yo tail, for whatever reasons. There are appropriate stages for you to express your Freedom of Speech among like-minded individuals.
Fay, I completely agree with Carolyn about the Christ-led pathway being the most amazing thing in my life, but I still also agree with Rose Maly's statement. I know many non-Christians who live amazing lives, too. I'm not familiar with her previous posts, but I don't see anything disdainful in this one. I try to be respectful of the beliefs of others. That's why the second part of Rose's statement is vitally important to us all. And freedom of speech should not be reserved only for people who agree with us.
Margaret, I shall attempt to respectfully respond to your post. You noted, and it is quite relevant, that you are "not familiar" with Doctor Maly's previous posts. But I AM, very familiar with them, and over a period of several months. They consistently express her contempt for things religious and faith-based and her exasperation with Sean's readers (they being in the majority) who voice them. With one particularly hostile comment, she chastised a widow who expressed the comfort that her faith gave her as she grieved the loss of her beloved husband of several decades. In another, she admonished a lady that words expressing her faith would have been best left out. Then, in a couple of her posts, she very deliberately chose to refer to God as "SHE." This is insignificant for me; perhaps for you also, but what proportion of Sean's readers would find this distasteful? Of course Freedom of Speech is important, along with AWARENESS of, and RESPECT for, the SETTINGS in which it is exercised. Sean's columns are positive, poignant, uplifting...and possibly, the brightest event in the day of many of his readers. Why be the proverbial Skunk at the Garden Party with consistently divisive comments such as hers? There are OTHER podia for that kind of negativity. Though my Freedom of Speech would allow it, I feel no need to spew out my convictions on Darwin, Dawkins, Evolution, Natural Selection, and Hybrid Vigor to a Bible Study group. Margaret, I am one of the non-Christians, an agnostic, fulfilled, enthralled with science and Nature, loving and NONjudgmental of my friends and kin of both Christian and of other faiths. The converse also appears to be true! I understand that I am on some prayer lists for being a "free thinker." Good! They could be right! Meanwhile, singer Iris Dement and I are content to "Let the Mystery Be!"
I agree with you about awareness and respect being important parts of freedom of speech, but those things should not be used as an excuse for censure on either side of this discussion. I am a Christian, and I am distressed that there seems to be in our country less and less tolerance for those who are not. I will put you on my prayer list, not because you are a free thinker, but just for being you. You sound like an interesting person, full of curiosity, which we need more of to all get along. Also, thank you for the mention of the song "Let the Mystery Be." I was not familiar with it. Nice song.
You and Jamie hold a precious place in Becca’s heart!!!♥️ I am so glad God sent you to be a Godfather —- and He doesn’t make mistakes. He knew Becca would just fit “the crook of my arm.”I’m in Albertville—-the next time you and Jamie are in the area, come see me. 😃
I think you would make a great father. But thank goodness you are a god-father to this precious child. I am sure you will always find a way to make her laugh, but please don't eat any more Bambis.... that is too sad.
A 'Family' is whatever your heart and mind lead you to bond and to connect with other people who may or may not share the same blood or even the same last name or even look like you. But I can tell you what a family is - A family is a person's ultimate soucre for strength and reslience when you feel as though the world has turned it's back on you. The power of family bonds can inspire you to pick yourself back up and to try once again to take one more step forward when you are too tired or weak. Together, being a part of a family, you can overcome any obstacle in your path and you can continue to reach for your dreams and achieve greatness - the likes you have never known before.
Don’t sell yourself short, I think you would have made a splendid father. But, perhaps God knew this young lady would need you the most.

Indeed He is amazing!! And you sound wonderful.

I love when you write about Becca. Your words are full of love and compassion, I think everyone could use a Sean in their lives.

Ah, how I wish Becca could see the drawing you made of the 2 of you! 💕
Isn’t the Christ led pathway just the most amazing thing in life; He never fails.🤗💞💞💝
I’m sorry, but my life is not “Christ led,” but nonetheless, very amazing. Thank God or whoever for the separation of church and state.

You may cause Becca to laugh, but you just made me cry!!!! No doubt, you need Becca in your life, Sean. And she needs you. 😊
Friends for life and forevermore, brought together by the grace of God.
Sweet. You guys are a perfect match as far as godparents and godchildren go. I’m guessing God was involved.
