Everyone is Florida has a Jimmy Buffett story. Many of them are true.

My older daughter lived in Key Largo and was working as a bartender at a resort in Islamorada.

She became acquainted with a playwright living at the resort. He was working on what would become a Broadway musical -- Meet Me in Margaritaville.

One day, a seaplane landed just offshore. It was piloted by one Jimmy Buffett.

My daughter greeted him, and he posed for a few selfies with her. He went to the bar to meet up with the playwright, and no one recognized him.

Just another beach bum, a little weathered, in a ball cap, T-shirt, shorts and flip flops.

He really did live his life as a song.

Sail on, Jimmy. It’s been a lovely cruise.

A friend had just graduated back in 1975. She went sailing on her birthday with some guys who had a boat down in Florida. They asked if she minded if they stopped to pick up a friend. She was fine with that. They got going again and decided they’d sing to her for her 19th birthday. The guy they picked up was named Jimmy, and he brought along a guitar. They all sang happy birthday to her. I’m not sure I would’ve believed her if she didn’t have a picture of that curly blond haired guy. Thanks, Jimmy.
