I know that angels walk the Earth,

loving with unselfish grace,

showing people their true worth

with slobb'ry licks unto the face.

Maybe I did not do well,

maybe my life was a fail,

but healing comes, oh, I do tell

from a madly wagging tail.

All to soon they have to go,

for their short years are quickly spent,

but there is one thing that I know,

that even though my heart is rent

they'll be the first ones that I see,

"Come on, Dad, let's go play Frisbee!"

Wagging tails and wiggle butts! Pure, unconditional love can only be found in a dog.

My Yellow Cat (that is descriptive and also was his name) was very much like a dog. He adored our dogs and was one of the pack. They adored him as well and accepted him completely. I will miss that cat always.

Kathryn, our cat, Goldie, rides around the house on the back of Henry, an enormous deaf Pitbull.

Kathleen, you're so right!

I have not been without a dog in the past 40 years, which means that I've said goodbye to too many. Each goodbye was the hardest thing I had to do. Yet the love and joy that they bring far outweighs the sadness. I love this poem, Andrew.

We've had so many losses, too. Four this spring, three from age,and a puppy from parvo.

Grief is the cost of love.

M Ellis's avatar

Indeed it is but love always remains.

Love this. Oh yes, our doggies are faithful lovers of their human.

Andrew is this poem your creation? It's so sweet!

Andrew Budek-Schmeisser's avatar

Vicky, it is indeed my creation, written after I read Sean's story. I'm so glad you like it!

Vicky Dickens's avatar

I hope you don't mind if I share it with a friend who is still grieving the loss of his "best friend" two years ago. You do have a very special way with words!

Andrew Budek-Schmeisser's avatar

I don't mind at all, Vicky. I'm honoured.

Andrew, that was so sweet! Thank you! My husband Mike and I were watching a news program, and they were talking about Daraxonrasib, a new drug for pancreatic cancer that is

in clinical trials, and the FDA is about to approve it. Apparently, it's on the fast track for apporval; it's an alterative to chemotherapy. Have you heard of it? Mike could read "M.D. Anderson" on the bottle. I thought you might want to look into it.

Andrew Budek-Schmeisser's avatar

Stacey, thank you! I'll look into it!

I hope to see all the dogs that have passed through my life, as soon as I get to heaven (I hope!). Thanks, Andrew for your always entertaining and humble words.

Andrew Budek-Schmeisser's avatar

If the dogs aren't waiting, it ain't Heaven.

I love it. I hope Randy's mom and all other moms of lost boys like me feel the love, with or without tails.

Doesn’t that description fit cats as well. My cats fill that roll for me❣️

And so … God created dogs. Big dogs, small dogs, medium sized dogs, barky dogs, quiet dogs, black dogs, white dogs, spotted dogs. Dogs … Love and affection in a fur coat!!

I am sure glad Randy thought of making dogs and God made it happen.

I better go and feed one of Randy's ideas breakfast. A very good idea indeed.

Have the happiest of Sundays!

Ok, Sean, I read it again. I think I got it this time, but, Sean, please don’t make God female!😢🙏🏾

Henry Puckett's avatar

I may as well be the one since no one else has pointed it out. God is not a she. Saying our Heavenly Father is a she is disrespectful.

Billie Begg's avatar

I have known people who were so abused by their fathers that they can't relate to God as male. Rather, they know God as feminine through their mothers. It seems to me that knowing God is the important thing.

Gilmer Dudley's avatar

God does not have a physical body. So God is neither male nor female. We usually say “He” out of custom, which is fine. But we don’t need to limit “him” to our earthly physical forms. In my opinion, God is a Spitit more than a he ot a she.

Now that’s a 4 legged story!

Dog gone it.....dogs are basically furry love.....four legged furry love machines.....

I love that these beings who have so much to teach us are dogs (or cats, in this household), but the fact that God is a woman wins the day. (I've had my suspicions all along...)

God is God - all things to all people.

back to the story! One of the points made, I think, was that God is a mother as well as their father!

The little angel that I have woke me up this morning at about 3am with an upset stomach. She went outside and stayed till she felt better then came back in. I gave her some attention, and she went back to sleep. She is around 15 years old. We are not sure of her age because God sent her to us when we were in need of comfort from an angel.

Evelyn Dearstyne's avatar

And I am up in the dark of night with MY little angel, 15 y-o too…making sure she found the water bowl and could settle down again🥰

Unconditional love. That’s what it’s all about.
