One year. It’s been one year since it happened. Blessed are the victims of the Covenant School shooting in Nashville, for they are with God. Blessed are the Covenant School staff members, the traumatized, the wounded, for these shall be called Children of God.
Sean’s blog could not have been more appropriate or thoughtfully worded. Anyone who ever questions his spirituality doesn’t know the real thing when they see it.
Blessed are those who continue to fight for sensible gun control laws so that senseless tragedies don’t happen. We can ban books but not assault weapons??? God gave us common sense. We need to use it.
Excellent memorial for the sad, sad tragedy that took place that day, Sean. Yes, blessed be the children, teachers and staff who were in the wrong place at the wrong time, but blessed especially be the police officers who ran right into the line of fire to take out the mentally ill shooter, whose parents mourn still and probably feel guilt, even though they didn't commit the crime, their disturbed child did. May God bless all involved that day and take care of the souls that left their earthly existence that day. And comfort everyone who was impacted personally or sympathetically that day. With God's help, all can recover their lives, still remembering the horror of that day, but tempered with God's everyday blessings.
I can’t imagine this pain. For whatever reason, unbeknownst to me, we are utterly and completely ignoring mental health in this country. Go to any bookstore and what’s the largest section? Mental health. I was walking through the little girls section of a clothing store and all I saw were little shirts and dresses that said “you are enough” or “be brave” or “shine your light”. We never had to walk around with statement reminders on our clothing as kids. Instead of spending money outside our own walls, perhaps we should be spending it inside. We need mental health facilities on every corner, not a Starbucks. Someone with no self worth isn’t going to suddenly find self worth if you take away guns. They simply move to the next destructive means. We aren’t treating the issue at all, just putting more bandages over abscesses. Youth are now being raised in an environment of words on pages rather than face to face interactions. Parents need to be so incredibly proactive in monitoring social media and keeping their kids grounded. It’s such a slippery slope. God Bless these families. 😞
I love that you closed with the Second Beatitude…”Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” But I love even more all the ones composed by you, Sean. For not knowing what to say, you said it all. Everything we felt then and everything we feel now. Very beautifully done, and very comforting to all of us who mourn. Thank you, Sean❣️ and God Bless You. ✝️
At its core the cause of every evil is hatred. Specific ideas are built into systems that help certain groups keep their power and accompanying wealth. Hatred stems from negative assumptions, images and beliefs about a certain group. All sides can be guilty. It fuels the pride of each group: each group’s identity is painted with broad strokes. We listen without thinking. More and more we are so consumed with abhorrence we wish to annihilate the other group.
Negative assumptions are accepted based upon a specific incident or person with little or no investigation of the group as a whole. All stereotypes are entirely false. Lies from the father of lies, in order to divide and conquer.
In times of crisis stereotypes become stronger and so the hatred. We’re seeing it played out today in cultural warfare. It is not political but spiritual warfare that we are in, make no mistake.
A gracious good morning and happy Thursday to all yall. Congratulations Sean not many people can make me growl before my second cup of coffee but yall managed to pull it off. When you baby sit kids with amoral games and videos. When you remove Christian values from a society that was founded on
Wait for it
CHRISTIAN VALUES. Now I'm not a Bible thumper but dang yall still can't figure this out ! Its not the weapon , its the diseased brain that controls the finger that pulls the trigger. I've read the constitution it says "the right to bear arms" not the right to bear an assault weapon. I've attended and taught more active shooter classes that Carters got liver pills and you have to accept the fact that we need a deterent not excuses for behavior. How many good women and men that are veterans would be willing to step up to protect our schools ? Congratulations yall have managed to pass me off even before I go to da barn ! Thanks loads. It ain't gonna be easy but I wish us all to have a little...
That has to be a parent’s worse nightmare. We send our children to school on the hope and belief that they will be safe and loved there. And they are-until something like this happens and there’s no way to wrap our minds around it. It’s heartbreaking and my deepest sympathies go out to them all. There’s nothing anyone can say to help, but we can grieve with them. So sad.
Yo Shelly Mac ! I've been a firearms instructor for 20 years. One if the rules to remember is, its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I've got a pocketful of old sayins. Yall have a hot chocolate mornin. Peace out
And still there is no gun reform... Maybe if you rewrite this column for all the children still to be murdered, someone, somewhere will finally outlaw high peered guns.
Yes, and AMEN! My daughter teaches at a private Christian school, and my two oldest grands are students there. Until Nashville, I took false comfort in thinking it could never happen at a small, private Christian school. Until it did. May God bless all the teachers who keep showing up every day and loving their students, in spite of the ever-present danger of this happening again.
There aren’t enough “Blesseds….” when are hearts ache to the point of actual physical pain. We can offer only our heart’s moaning and groaning to God.
“I will raise my eyes to the mountains;
From where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1-2

Sean, you always get to the heart of the matter. You say it exactly right. ❤️

It always works when you quote our Savior.
