Day One. The first day of beach vacation. We have been in the car for seven and a half hours. I am seeing double. There is a 12-year-old girl in our backseat, steadily talking. She is blind, and she is our goddaughter. She is going to spend the weekend with us at the beach. And she has a lot to say.
Ohh, road trips. Those chattering monologues may seem endless, especially when you haven't had a child who has accompanied you on them throughout their growing up years. But when they aren't with you anymore the car can seem awfully quiet, no matter how much conversation you and your spouse may have, how familiar the tunes on the radio, or engrossing the podcast may be. Have some more bulled-peanuts and cherish the chatter. It goes so fast, even with a godchild.
We used to let my youngest daughter sit in front during vacation trips to Maine just to keep my husband awake as she never stopped talking. She could recount an hour long movie in just two short hours. She started her story telling/poetry writing career back in elementary school when she won an award for one of her poems and was invited to read it at a local college. I am certain she is talking Jesus's ear off right now.
Ahh sweet Becca will undoubtedly have many more things to say about the beach, water, smells and keep you wondering and smiling deep down as well! Have a beautiful weekend, and let Becca know it’s ok to rest those vocal chords for the trip back home! 😂❤️
Hoping you, Jamie and Becca have a wonderful time at the beach! Such a blessing to view the world through the eyes of a child, especially one whose eyes don't work.
I am just wondering what type of conversation came up that would let Becca know there were lines in the middle of the highway! Congratulations Sean and Jamie for giving this remarkable child experiences she will never forget. I agree with Mike Swanson about the navigation.
A gracious good morning and happy Saturday to all yall. Soooo don't yall live near Bham ? Seven and and a half hours of driving should put yall way down the coast. I would love to hear Becca's musings ! For about an hour. I remember those family trips to the sunshine state. Loading up the family truckster with coolers full of samich fixins, chips and dips and such. Fun !
A child's monologues are the most valuable source of information. If you listen carefully, you can discover the answer to anything! And it's okay to say "I don't know the answer to that."
In the blink of an eye, our little magpies grow up and away, so we enjoy them to the max while we can.
Remember, while traveling, that half the fun is getting there. And the other half is reliving those vacation memories that our magpies recall the whole way home!
I love Becca and love that you share your sight, voice (when you can get a word in......!!!!), and life with her! She will grow up to see others in a different light, thru her heart and hearing. How else will she learn, Sean, if not by asking questions? And, you, my friend, are the benefactor of all her affections and questions! You are blessed and highly favored!!!!
I can hardly wait to meet Becca and hear her beautiful voice tomorrow night in Lynn Haven!!!!! I've seen you before on one of your visits to Dothan, but this will be my first time meeting Becca!
I learned to never shut down a chatterbox . I limited my young niece to 10 questions on a short trip years ago. I lived to regret it…..I felt so bad with my decision….she is very intelligent and curious. We laugh about it now…..I even gifted her with a book which encouraged opportunities for children to question. I wrote her an apology inside and promised not to make the mistake again. Good for you Sean!!!! You are a wonderful listener to the 101 questions. I didn’t hear, “Are we there yet?”

Ummm…you live in BHM and you're going to the FL beaches via ATL?! Maybe you should let someone else navigate!
