Happy Thanksgiving! We are thankful for Grace that she helped give you a second chance. We are also thankful for Jamie for giving you lots of second chances! And I have come to believe that there is no such thing as a coincidence. I believe everything is orchestrated by our Creator, who knows from the day we are born, how the rest of our life will roll out to honor Him.
Thankful for you and Jamie on this Thanksgiving Day, Sean- as a nurse for the last 45 years, this is my first Thanksgiving as a “retired” nurse- we don’t ever stop being nurses. You just get to hear more stories from your community and family in different ways. Thankful for all of these opportunities!
I'm a 6 yr retired nurse, jan and i ALWAYS say that i am a nurse. once a nurse, always a nurse. and you're right sean, the clinicals are torture but the boards are hell. pure unadulterated hell. but, it was worth it! best thing i ever did in life.
I’ve been reading your ‘column’ way before you became such a ‘star’. Over the years you have brought so much love, wisdom and laughter into my life. On this day we stop and give thanks, I am so very thankful for you, Sean.
I am thankful for all I have, food, shelter, clothing, I always have enough that I can share with others. I am thankful for Sean and Jamie and their family and pets, and getting to know them thru Sean's columns.
2nd chances are great. Some of us might need 70 times 7. I am thankful that I live in America.
I'm grateful for so much.I promise I'll try not to write a dissertation here.Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.😊 I'm grateful my husband survived his heart attack.I'm grateful our son decided to move to the Gulf Coast with us.I miss our Shadow girl,a small but loving Tortie, but grateful for the years we had with her.I'm grateful for our other cats, those that own us and our feral visitors.I'm grateful that humanity can be so kind during holidays and natural disasters.I'm grateful for spectacular sunsets, seagulls, pelicans and the serenity found on the beach.I'm grateful for the classic movie Mary Poppins which I am watching.I'm grateful for Sean and Jamie. Most of all I'm grateful for love and kindness.Pax...
Three of my closest friends for many years are (or were) nurses. I remember that they wore starched white dresses and little caps even when they were taking care of bloody, dirty patients in emergency rooms. Three of them were from small towns with tiny clinics or hospitals, with perhaps one doctor for the town. A lot has changed over the years, but the nurses I knew did not choose their profession to make money.
I am thankful for nurses also and teachers. They must be next to angels. And dogs.
If you need a book to keep you up for a part of the night and cry at the same time, read Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullally Hunt.
It is a beautiful story about a teacher who changes a 6th grade girl's life (who thought she was "just stupid" and actually was very smart) and best of all it's based off the author's life. It's available on libby as audio for free and read by the author herself. Blessings.
Sean, I am thankful for second chances too. We all need them. I am thankful for so many of the same things you listed, and I am thankful for my life as a teacher and that you became a writer. Happy Thanksgiving.
What a wonderful message for this Thanksgiving, my all time favorite holiday. Second chances prevail in all of our lives and if we are astute enough to recognize them our gratitude grows larger and our hearts grow softer. Thanks, Sean. You give us all a second chance and we should do that for others.
Grace at Thanksgiving? No way that was a coincidence. Nor was me reading this column/bloggy thing/whatever it is when a friend shared it a few years ago. I’m grateful for Grace (in all its iterations) and for you, Mr. D. Blessings to all.

I am thankful for family and friends, too,
Especially the 4-legged ones.

How I miss those starched white dresses (with white hose and shoes), and the little caps perched on the crowns of our heads!

I think you got just about everything. It was nurses that took care of me when I was sick years ago.
Does anyone know what’s happened to Pubert? I haven’t seen him here in quite a while.
How observant of you, Sharon! Praying he’s ok and will check in!
Me too! I’ve started to worry.
Good question, Sharon. Hope he's OK.
I've been wondering the same thing for weeks now! Thanks for mentioning him, I was beginning to think I was just unobservant. Praying he's ok!
And, now that you mention it, Ed's been pretty quiet lately too.
I’ve been wondering the same thing!

Thanks to you Sean, for being you.
Lovely down-to-earth thanksgiving.
Bless you all!
