This story packs a powerful punch and reminds us that protective angels are all around us, all the time.

I'm glad you said angels. They out number the demons 2 to 1. God knew we would need them for protection, healing, and direction. Humbling thought. Sometimes we can't but God can and wants to help, if we let Him.

I believe in angels, and I also believe the Lord is especially close to the brokenhearted.

Yes, I believe that, too. I've gotten the "nudges" to say or do something when I'm thinking "stay out of it". I follow those nudges, and get responses like "I really needed to hear that". Makes me happy for the nudge :)

How we wish we could give everyone this kind of promising outcome from such a heartbreaking time.

Lander, at the funeral of my 37-year-old best friend who died of breast cancer in ‘02, a pastor made the most humble and honest statement I’ve heard from a pulpit: “I don’t know why she died.” Clearly, the cause was cancer, but he was saying that despite the many prayers of faithful, she died anyway. I lean toward believing we have an appointed day to die on this earth, same as when we are born.

I prayed and asked God what his plan was with my 10 yr old nephew, who was in last stages of leukemia at the Children's hospital.. God replied, I'm going to take him home"

My sister in law said, "Come on. We are going to pray that God will heal Robert." My wife sister in law went to the cafeteria. After a quiet spell, I asked Robert, What is God saying to you?". "He's going to take me home" was the reply.

Sometimes the ultimate healing is death. It is a blessing for the one who passes on to eternity with God, but it is still our lot on this earth to grieve.

There’s a passage in Mark about a demon possessed boy the disciples are unable to heal. Jesus admonishes the group for a lack of faith. The father of the boy responds, IF You can do anything…Jesus has unearthed the seed of doubt and assures the father with faith all things are possible.

The father in desperation says I believe: help my unbelief. It’s a perplexing statement until we ourselves are faced with tragedy. But the acknowledgement of our inadequacy allows God to work in our lives.

I do have faith! Please help me to have even more! More faith will carry us for a lifetime, not just in our hour of need. Jesus is pleased with this response (prayer) and heals the boy. Or as in Lydia’s case, dispatches an angel.

Scripture teaches that Jesus was the Creator of all things, even the angels. Perhaps the most important role for angels is praising and glorifying God. Only the name of the One who sends them is important.

Mark 9:24 - a favorite I often refer myself to... “Immediately the father of the child cried out[a] and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

Miracle stories always give me a thrill. The most heartfelt prayers get sent when a child is at risk, and you know what Jesus had to say about them. Nobody's figured out how miracles work, and they never will. It isn't logical. It isn't physics. It isn't even medicine. But they happen, daily, to the oddest people you'd never pick for a miracle. They don't have to deserve it or even expect it, but God does it anyway. One of His mysteries.

Leigh, "I don't know why," is probably one of the most honest things that can be said. I'm glad to know that pastor could be so helpful in such a difficult time. It is so very important. Thank you for sharing that treasured observation. I just learned last night that a friend's grandson and two great grandchildren were killed when a tractor trailer veered over the dividing line of the highway they were on as they traveled to celebrate Thanksgiving with their larger family. There are terrible accidents that happen, and in an instant a life or several lives can be over. And in no more time than it takes to answer a phone call, time changes for a whole family when it is marked by the before and after of something so disturbing. My hunch is that it's not so much that those things are pre-determined. That would leave us all in a fatalistic state where we have little or no freedom. But what is pre-determined is that God will be with us through those times and will love us for all of time. We will not be forgotten, no matter how long or how brief a life we have.

I am so sorry to hear of the tragic accident involving your friend’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. So close to the holidays makes it especially difficult to process—and will for years to come. I wouldn’t think that accident was pre-determined, but perhaps happened due to the imperfection of this world because of the fall. I’m certain your understanding of this is deeper than mine due to your background. The old song lyric, we’ll understand it better by and by comes to mind. And I’ve long held that when we do fully understand it, the *need* to understand will have passed away as well as we pass into perfection.

I agree with thT! No otber way to explain how one family goes unscathed all their life annnd another is like your friend's family. No way in the sanity part of our reasoning. Or , I might add, in the belief in prayer... with us thro it all , not playing favorites based on amount, depth, or quality of prayer!!

We have Angels, God's Helpers, all around us 24-7, to assist & even Heal.

A very good book, "Angels on Earth, They are Waiting on You," by Dr. Michael P. Jacobs, an outstanding Speaker who even "sees" all the Angels around himself and others.

Just a 101 page book, but full of actual stories of the Angel working here among us.

It is at nearly all book sellers, but the most reasonably priced from Dr. Jacobs himself.
