But you do have children, Sean. Those boys. Becca. Every youngster you’ve ever spoken to, smiled at or hugged. Every dog, cat, turtle or critter you came in contact with. Every hospital patient, every letter writer, every book reader and music listener. You have children all around who love you. And many of those children are old enough to be your parents.

I cried at this. I didn't get misty. I didn't tear up. I cried full-on, with tears running down my face. Oh, Sean, you have such a beautiful way of l saying things. How fantastic that you saw them, that you found out that you made such an impression, that you genuinely mattered to them. So few of us have the chance to find that out. Often, we never know what kind of difference we make in the lives of others. What a blessing to you that God gifted you this meeting.

Being a probation office there were many times, actually too many to recall, that I felt like a teacher of adults. I learned very quickly that not all those who we call adults just because they have turned 18 are definitely NOT adults in any sense of the word.

Some don’t ever really become what we call responsible adults.

I do still keep in touch with several of my clients even after my retirement 4 1/2 yrs ago. In fact one man, Wayne, helps me with anything that needs doing around my house & calls or texts me just to make sure I’m okay since I live alone.

Funny how people “grow up” even if it takes them a little longer! 👍🏼

What a good thing to make a difference in some young lives.

It's something special when you find out something you did in your past really mattered to someone. Congratulations Sean! I suspect this is one of the best paydays you've ever had!

You were good before you knew it.

I can relate (sniff…sniff). I have the same reaction every time I meet a former student who remembers me and something I said.

Me, too! I live in the same town where I taught for 40 years and I love seeing ‘my kids’, all grown with families of their own. ❤️❤️

My coach's name was Coach Nelson, NEVER call him Leroy! My father died when I was in 1st grade and then in 4th grade I was introduced to our school's after-school sports program. He was a wonderful man, going to college and working at our school in the afternoons. What an influence!

I know he passed away. Somehow I missed the 50th anniversary of my elementary school and missed seeing him.

I think you have seriously underestimated your ability to influence children, and their lives. You don't have to be a parent to change a child's life for the better. Becca is your most glowing example....

In the “Baseball Game of Life”, I believe you, Sean, have played every position…..and you played each part well! The success of the game continued long after the season was over….the kids you coached are now fathers, a coach and a priest. They can still recall all their pep talks and encouragement and remember a coach who cared for them unconditionally. Yep…..the bright lights are going to shine a long time for this TEAM and those who follow after them!

Sean. what a treat for you to see the boys that you helped turn into young men! What a wonderful coincidence to just happen to be there when they, too, were there. I don't believe in coincidences. I think a greater being than us causes awesome things to occur just like this. And yes, they are your children, as is Becca. You just get to enjoy them without all the growing up problems that all kids have. You may have experienced some with these boys and you no doubt will experience some with Becca. Enjoy the fact that they all consider you a friend and an extra "parent" in their lives. However, just to inject a bit of humor. My mom lived in the same town she taught in as a young woman before she married. She would run into her former students at the grocery store, and they would call her by her maiden name. She couldn't remember who most of them were, after 50 plus years, but she later would tell me: "Wow, she looks old!"

A gracious good evening and happy Monday to all yall. Sean, you are rapidly approaching the position that a great many of us have attained. That is "the exhausted rooster"

It's a HUGE organization with chapters in every country. Peace

Seems like according to stats. Each of us will influence around 50 others. Sean has at least 51 or more. The dad in the parodical son story didn't try to stop his son from learning a very valuable lesson, but he was waiting and looking down the road for his return. I think he was probably praying for his son.
